Vitamin D Consumption in Lockdown

Due to this Coronavirus pandemic, everybody of us is staying at our houses and are quarantined. In this situation, many of us are not getting enough sunlight which resulted in the deficiency of Vitamin D in our body which is not good for our health. Vitamin D plays an important role in the maintenance of our health. It is available in the forms of supplements, there are two types of supplements, Vitamin D2  (ergocalciferol) and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol), both of these are proved successful in dealing with depression, weakness, bone pain, and immunity-boosting. The main sources of this are egg yolks, cheese, beef liver, oily fishes, fortified milk, and cereals. 

Vitamin D is also known as a hormone because it supports the absorption of Calcium in the body. 

The Deficiency of Vitamin D causes neurological diseases, auto-immune problems, and cancers, especially breast and colon cancers. Its deficiency also leads to the shortage of calcium in our body which causes osteoporosis, which is more common in women. 

Studies have shown that it is highly associated with the levels of serotonin ( important for mood regulations) and melatonin ( which regulates our sleep). Many studies have also proved that direct exposure to sunlight is more beneficial than intakes of supplements. Many countries like Uk public health demands and recommends theirs every adult citizen to take 10 microgram supplements of Vitamin D especially in autumn and winter.

Vitamin D intake should be taken in a limited way because a very high dosage of it can be harmful to us. It can cause cardiovascular disease in our bodies. Although, it is a must that should be taken by every individual. 

In order to cope up with all these things and disorders, we should take vitamin D in our daily diet which is very important to our health. Also, keeping the prevailing situation in mind, usage of sanitizers, and masks can be very helpful in order to fight with this pandemic.
